Three packs of crackers for cheese from The Fine Cheese Co of Bath in Somerset, who bake their flavoured range exclusively with extra virgin olive oil rather than butter. The flavours are kept deliberately subtle, the maker says, so the crackers never overwhelm the cheese.
The box holds Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Sea Salt, Rosemary and Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and Fig, Honey and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. All three are wheat flour crackers with 10 to 11% olive oil; the rosemary cracker carries 2% rosemary, and the fig cracker 7% dried fig pieces with muscovado sugar and 1% honey. They are crunchy, thin and lightly salted, and each is pitched at a different kind of cheese. Wheat is declared as an allergen.
The maker's own guide: olive oil and sea salt for any hard cheese, rosemary for any goats' milk cheese, and fig and honey for any ewes' milk cheese. So put the first with Quicke's Mature Clothbound Cheddar, the second with White Lake Driftwood, and the third with White Lake Pavé Cobble, and you have a board sorted. The plain one also stands in for bread with a bowl of soup.
