Cracked peppercorns blended with Cornish sugar kelp, made by The Cornish Seaweed Company at Helston in Cornwall, where the kelp is sustainably farmed in Cornish waters rather than wild-cut, then dried and mixed with the pepper. It is the companion to their seaweed salt.
The producer's description is fragrant and aromatic with a hint of the sea, and that is what you get: the pepper does the heavy lifting, warm and sharp, with the kelp underneath adding a savoury, faintly marine note that plain pepper does not have. The producer's suggestion is to use it instead of your normal pepper to bring a bit of the Cornish coast to the table, and it is coarse enough to sit on top of a dish rather than disappear into it.
Grind it over mashed potato, fried or scrambled eggs, a fillet of white fish or a steak, and stir it into fried mushrooms on toast. It is good over buttered greens and in a salad dressing, and it pairs naturally with their Cornish Sea Salt And Mixed Cornish Seaweed Flakes as a matched pair on the table. Try it on a cheese on toast made with Quicke's Mature Clothbound Cheddar, or alongside a jar from the Cornish Sea Salt collection.
A 40g pack. No major allergens declared. Pepper and seaweed only, so nothing from an animal, and suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
