The Garlic Farm Sweet Snacking Cloves with Herbs

A 270g jar of whole garlic cloves marinated in oil with mint, parsley and basil, from The Garlic Farm at Newchurch, Isle of Wight, where the Boswell family have grown garlic for more than fifty years and prepare their pickles and marinated cloves from the crop.

Garlic cloves make up 58% of the jar, in sunflower oil (38%) with salt, wine vinegar and dried herbs. The producer describes them as sweet and crunchy without the biting heat of fresh garlic, and says they will not linger on the breath while leaving no doubt that the garlic is still there. The vinegar adds a mild sharpness and the mint and basil come through at the end.

The producer's suggestion is to pass them round as tapas or crunch them with a beer or a glass of wine. Put the jar out on a board with Rosary Natural Goat's Cheese Drum and Peter's Yard Original Sourdough Crackers, chop a few cloves into a salad or over roasted vegetables, or use the herby oil left in the jar for a dressing. A glass of Lyme Bay Winery Pinot Noir suits a plate of them.
