Three kinds of cracker for cheese in one box, hand-baked by Miller's at a family bakery in Ashbourne in Derbyshire that has been going for more than a hundred years. The maker has taken one line from each of three ranges, a fruit toast, a seeded wholemeal cracker and a plain wafer, so a whole cheeseboard can be served from a single box.
Miller's Toast Cranberry & Raisin is baked twice, which is where its crunch comes from. A quarter of it is dried cranberries, with pumpkin seeds, raisins and a little honey. Miller's Harvest Three-Seed is 78% stoneground wholemeal flour with sesame seeds, linseeds and poppy seeds, and the maker calls it crisp and tangy. Miller's Damsel Buttermilk is a third buttermilk, with butter, and is kept deliberately neutral so it carries whatever goes on top.
The maker suggests the fruit toast with soft cheese, so try it under a slice of Baron Bigod. The Three-Seed is meant for earthy, full-flavoured hard cheeses such as Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar. The buttermilk wafer is the one for pâté and savoury spreads, and it is sold on its own as Miller's Damsel Buttermilk Wafers if it turns out to be the favourite.
A 350g box. Keep it somewhere cool and dry, and move the crackers to an airtight container once opened.
