Shorrocks Whisky Lancashire Bomb Waxed Cheese 230g

The Whisky Bomb is the Shorrocks Lancashire Bomb with whisky added, a whole waxed Lancashire cheese made by Shorrocks at Goosnargh in Lancashire from pasteurised cow's milk with vegetarian rennet. It comes as a 230g ball, sealed in wax.

The ingredient list is pasteurised cow's milk, lactic culture, vegetarian rennet, salt and whisky. So this is a plain Lancashire with a spirit note running through it, and the whisky is a flavouring rather than a wash. Milk is the only declared allergen; the whisky is listed as an ingredient rather than an allergen.

Open the wax at the top and cut down in wedges. It suits a late evening board with oatcakes or Miller's Ale Crackers, a spoon of Hawkshead Relish Orange & Whisky Marmalade to double the whisky, and a glass of something from the spirits shelf. It also makes a good cheese for a Burns Night table beside the haggis, and any that is left crumbles well into a baked potato with plenty of butter.

A whole waxed bomb of 230g, sent chilled. Vegetarian rennet, so it suits vegetarians. Bring it to room temperature before serving and keep it wrapped in the fridge once opened.
