Rosebud Preserves Pear & Somerset Brandy Jam 227g

Pear & Somerset Brandy Jam is a pale, soft-set jam of English Conference pears with a measure of aged cider brandy. Rosebud Preserves make it in small batches at their farm near Masham in North Yorkshire, in a collaboration with the Somerset Cider Brandy Company, whose spirit is the only cider brandy with Protected Geographical Status.

Pears make up 92% of the jar, with unrefined cane sugar, Bramley apples and lemon juice for balance and set, then 2% Somerset Cider Brandy and a little cider. The makers describe it as light and fresh with hints of dried fruit from the oak-matured spirit. It is not a boozy jam; the brandy sits in the background and adds warmth rather than heat.

Rosebud suggest it with cheese or, more traditionally, with scones. On a cheeseboard it suits a mild, creamy cheese: try it with a soft Somerset Camembert or a young Quicke's Buttery Clothbound Cheddar. It also works stirred into porridge, spooned over rice pudding or spread on a warm crumpet.

A 227g jar. Keep it in the fridge once opened. Vegan and vegetarian, with no additives or preservatives, though it does contain alcohol.
