Hawkshead Relish
Mark and Maria Whitehead ran a Lake District café and made relishes for its meals until customers asked to buy jars. When foot-and-mouth kept visitors out of Cumbria in 2001, they took samples to shops and restaurants and the relish company began. Everything is made by hand in open pans in a 16th-century barn a mile outside Hawkshead.
