Two Farmers Hereford Hop Cheese & Onion Hand-Cooked Crisps, 100g Tin

Cheese and onion crisps made with Hereford Hop, a cheese from the county, in a resealable tin. Two Farmers, who grow their own potatoes and fry them in small batches at Wellington in Herefordshire, use onions from the farm and cheese made a few miles away by Charles Martell & Son.

The potatoes are Lady Claire, Lady Rosetta and Taurus, grown on the farm and cooked in high-oleic sunflower oil. The seasoning is buttermilk powder, onion powder, salt, Hereford Hop cheese powder and parsley. The maker describes the cheese as deliciously sharp and sweet, and says the cheese powder is made with vegetarian rennet. The crisps are thick, golden and loud, with a tangy dairy note that plain cheddar seasonings do not have. No artificial flavours, colours or preservatives; the maker lists them as vegetarian and gluten-free.

Put the tin on the table with a ploughman's: a hunk of Quicke's Mature Clothbound Cheddar, a spoon of Tracklements Perfect Ploughman's Pickle and a cold cider. They are also the crisps to crumble into a cheese sandwich, or to serve with a bowl of Tracklements Caramelised Onion Marmalade for dipping.
