The British Hemp Co. Cold Pressed Hemp Seed Oil

A dark green, nutty finishing oil cold-pressed from hemp seed grown in this country, pressed by The British Hemp Co. at its SALSA-accredited factory on Factory Lane in Warminster, Wiltshire, from hemp the firm says is grown regeneratively without herbicides or pesticides.

The bottle holds one thing: hemp seed oil, cold pressed from 100% UK-grown seed. The producer describes it as dark green with a nutty taste and similar in consistency to a virgin olive oil, and that is a fair guide: it is thick, grassy and green, with a nutty flavour that is closer to a walnut oil than to a neutral cooking oil. Cold pressing keeps that flavour intact, which is also why it should not be heated.

The producer says to use it as a cold culinary oil, in salads, sauces, soups, pesto and smoothies, and suggests a tablespoon a day. Drizzle it over roasted vegetables after they come out of the oven, stir it into hummus, fold it through warm grains or lentils, or spoon it over a plate of soft cheese like Bath Soft Cheese with a pinch of Cornish Sea Salt Crystals. It also makes a good dressing whisked with white wine vinegar and a little honey.
