A box of 20 teabags across four black teas from Taylors of Harrogate, the Yorkshire family business established in 1886, which blends its tea in Harrogate, North Yorkshire: English Breakfast, Afternoon Darjeeling, Earl Grey and Assam.

Three of the four are nothing but black tea. English Breakfast is the strong morning blend that takes milk. Assam is the malty, full one. Afternoon Darjeeling is lighter and more floral, the tea for drinking without milk after lunch. Earl Grey is black tea with 5% natural bergamot flavouring. Taylors describes its way of working as doing things properly, without shortcuts, and a box like this is the simplest way to find out which of its teas you like before buying a full pack.

Water just off the boil, three to five minutes depending on how strong you want it, milk for the Breakfast and Assam and none for the Darjeeling. Put the box out for guests over Christmas so everyone gets the cup they want, and if the Breakfast wins, the Loose Leaf English Breakfast is the next step.
