Stokes Spiced Mango Chutney 265g

A mango chutney that is 56% mango, cooked in small batches by Stokes at the Old Stables kitchens of Rendlesham Hall in Rendlesham, Suffolk, from a firm that started with mayonnaise and ketchup in 2004 and now makes more than sixty products.

Mango pieces are cooked with sugar and cane molasses, red wine vinegar, sea salt and an aromatic blend of spices that includes a curry powder of coriander, mustard, turmeric, fenugreek, cumin, ginger, cardamom and clove. The producer describes it as beautifully balanced with a mild, gentle warmth, so the fruit does the talking and the spice sits behind it. The molasses adds a dark sweetness and the red wine vinegar keeps it from being cloying.

The producer suggests it as an accompaniment to Indian food: curries, samosas and bhajis. It also puts it with creamy coronation chicken, roast chicken sandwiches and brie, and on that last point a spoonful next to a wedge of Hampshire Cheese Co Tunworth English Camembert or the Cricket St Thomas Somerset Camembert makes a soft cheese sing. It belongs on any board built from the For the Cheeseboard collection.

A 265g jar. Vegetarian, vegan, dairy free and gluten free according to the producer. Contains mustard. The producer warns that, although every care is taken to remove mango stones, some pieces may remain.
