Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs 2020 Gift Box 75cl

Gusbourne's 2020 Blanc de Blancs, a vintage sparkling wine made only from Chardonnay, in the estate's white gift box. It is made by the traditional method at Gusbourne in Appledore, Kent, from grapes grown on the estate's own vineyards.

The grapes were picked by hand in September and October 2020 and pressed as whole bunches. A small part of the wine was fermented in French oak, and after bottling in June 2021 it was left on its lees for more than four years before release, which is where the toasty, bready notes come from. The estate describes a bright golden wine with a fine mousse, green apple, citrus and a mineral edge on the nose, then buttered toast, tarte tatin and toasted hazelnut, with a creamy texture and a long, zesty finish. It is dry, with 7g of sugar per litre. 12% ABV.

Serve it well chilled as an aperitif, or with oysters, ceviche or a plate of smoked fish. The gift box means it can be handed over as it is. For a special occasion, step up to the estate's Fifty One Degrees North 2016, and for a cheeseboard afterwards try Peter's Yard Original Sourdough Crackers.
