Folkington's Pure Pressed Cranberry Juice 250ml

A cranberry juice drink in a 250ml glass bottle, bottled by Folkington's at Polegate in East Sussex, a family-owned drinks business that uses only not-from-concentrate juice across its range, pressed soon after picking. Cranberry is too tart to drink neat, so this is the fruit made drinkable without a sugar bag.

It is water, 19% pure Stevens-variety cranberry juice pressed from the berry rather than reconstituted, and apple and grape syrup for sweetness. No added sugar, preservatives or additives. The producer describes it as a cranberry taste with the typical astringency from the berry but not over-powering, with a fruity backdrop, and that is fair: it is sharp and mouth-drying at first, then softens into fruit rather than sourness.

Drink it cold from the fridge as it is, or use the bottle as a mixer. A measure of The Lakes Gin Classic topped with cranberry and a squeeze of lime is a simple long drink, and a splash into a glass of Fentimans Connoisseurs Tonic Water makes a sharper alcohol-free alternative. It sits well with a Christmas table, alongside turkey or a pork pie, and in a hamper with anything from the soft drinks collection.
