A breakfast blend of Cornish-grown black tea and Assam, grown, blended and packed by Tregothnan on their estate at Tresillian, near Truro in Cornwall, where tea was first planted in 1999 in the kitchen garden. The Cornish leaf is drawn from the 38 varieties of Camellia sinensis growing on the estate, the widest range ever grown in England, and it is blended with Assam for body.
The estate describes the cup as bold, malty and rich, and quite refreshing for the first brew of the morning. The Assam brings the malt and the weight; the Cornish leaf, grown in a creek-side microclimate the estate says is often warmer than Darjeeling, is lighter and brighter. Together they make a proper strong morning tea that takes milk without disappearing under it.
Brew one pyramid in freshly boiled water for three to four minutes. Add milk and sweeten to taste, or drink it black if the leaf is what you are after. It is a breakfast tea, so put it with toast and a jar of Mrs Darlington's Medium Cut Orange Marmalade, or make a pot for elevenses with Farmhouse Biscuits Shortbread Rings.
Fifteen pyramids to a box. The pouches are made from cornstarch, plastic-free and biodegradable. No allergens declared, suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Keep the box closed and away from strong smells, which tea picks up.
