Drivers Sundried Tomato Chutney 350g

A tomato chutney with a chilli edge, made by Drivers at Braunstone Frith in Leicester, Leicestershire, the fourth generation family pickle firm founded in 1906. The producer describes it as a blend of sundried and cherry tomatoes with chilli and paprika.

Cherry tomatoes make up 30% and sundried tomato purée another 12%, cooked with onion, apple, light brown sugar and red wine vinegar. Red chilli, garlic, olive oil and paprika round it out. That is a deep, sweet-sharp tomato flavour with the concentrated savouriness of the sundried fruit, a little smokiness from the paprika and a modest heat from the chilli. Sulphites, from the sundried tomatoes and the apple, are declared as an allergen.

Drivers suggest it as a dip, spread on crackers, or stirred into recipes. Spoon it onto Peter's Yard Original Sourdough Crackers with a slice of hard cheese, work it into a cheddar sandwich, or dollop it beside a sausage roll. A spoonful stirred through pasta with a handful of grated Quicke's Mature Clothbound Cheddar makes a quick supper.

A 350g jar. The producer lists it as vegan and gluten free, and there is nothing from animals in the ingredients. Refrigerate once opened.
