Mrs Darlington's Three Fruit Marmalade

Mrs Darlington's Three Fruit Marmalade is a medium cut marmalade of Seville oranges, grapefruits and lemons, made near Nantwich in Cheshire by a family firm whose founder began with lemon curd on the family farm in 1980 and still oversees the recipes. The producer describes it simply as a lovely blend of oranges, lemons and grapefruits.

It is prepared with 37g of fruit per 100g, from sugar, Seville oranges, grapefruits, lemons, water, orange juice and pectin, with no added colour or preservatives. The three fruits each bring something: bitterness from the Seville orange, a sharper, cleaner bitterness from the grapefruit, and acidity from the lemon. The result is sharper and less sweet-tasting than a straight orange marmalade, with a medium cut of peel that gives it some chew.

It belongs on hot toast, and it is the marmalade to reach for if you find plain orange a little one-note. Beyond breakfast it glazes a gammon joint, sweetens a pan sauce for duck, and does well on a cheeseboard beside a wedge of Quicke's Mature Clothbound Cheddar and a few Miller's Three Fruit Crackers.

If your order arrives damaged, faulty, missing an item, or not as described, contact us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and clear photos of the packaging and the affected item. Please keep all packaging until we've reviewed the issue.
