Mrs Darlington's English Mustard

Mrs Darlington's English Mustard is a smooth, hot mustard made near Nantwich in Cheshire by a family preserves firm that has cooked its own recipes since 1980, with its founder still in charge of them. The producer's own description is smooth, golden and packing a great big punch of warmth and flavour.

Mustard flour makes up 35.8% of the jar, mixed with water, salt, a little wheat flour and turmeric, and nothing else. There is no vinegar or sugar in it, which is why it hits the way an English mustard should: a clean, direct heat that goes to the nose and then fades, with the turmeric giving it the colour. The wheat flour is there for the smooth texture.

The producer points it at roast beef, cold cuts, pork pies and a ploughman's lunch, and suggests mixing it with mayonnaise and honey as a dip for chipolatas. Spread it thinly in a ham sandwich, whisk a little into a cheese sauce, or put it on the board beside Quicke's Mature Clothbound Cheddar with Peter's Yard Original Sourdough Crackers. A dab goes a long way.

A 200g glass jar. Contains mustard and wheat, so it is not gluten free. The ingredients are all plant based, so it suits vegans.

Orders after midday Thursday, or over the weekend, dispatch on Monday.

Cheese is cut fresh to order and sent chilled, dispatched every Monday and Wednesday. Everything in your order ships together in one insulated box, arriving the next day.

If your order arrives damaged, faulty, missing an item, or not as described, contact us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and clear photos of the packaging and the affected item. Please keep all packaging until we've reviewed the issue.
