Chococo Oat-rageously Good 43% Oat Milk Chocolate Bar

Oat-rageously Good is a 75g bar of 43% Colombia origin chocolate made with oat powder in place of milk. Chococo make it in Swanage, Dorset, where the Burnet family have run their chocolate business since 2002 and wanted a plant-based bar that tastes like the milk chocolate people grew up with.

The chocolate is produced for the maker in Colombia from Fino de Aroma cocoa grown in the Huila, Tumaco and Santander regions. It is built on cane sugar, cocoa butter, gluten-free oat powder, cocoa mass and rice powder, with sunflower lecithin rather than soya. The producer describes it as creamy, with clean cocoa and hints of caramel. Because there is no dairy, the cocoa comes through a little more clearly than in a milk bar.

The producer suggests it as a self treat alongside a warming drink. Keep one for a vegan guest, or serve it with a pot of Tregothnan English Breakfast or a mug of Pump Street drinking chocolate for a plant-based afternoon. Melted, it makes a dairy-free ganache for cakes.

The bar weighs 75g and comes in a paper pouch inside a cardboard box, with no plastic. No milk, soya or nuts are in the recipe, and the producer lists it as vegan-friendly and gluten-free, though it may contain traces of dairy, gluten, nuts and soya from the wider kitchen.
