Brown Bag Crisps Smoked Bacon 40g

Hand-cooked potato crisps with a smoked bacon seasoning, in a single 40g bag. Brown Bag Crisps make them in Shepperton, Surrey, a family firm that has stayed independent since Phil and Viv started it in 2010 and still hand-cooks every batch.

Potatoes and rapeseed oil carry an 8% seasoning of oak smoked sugar, yeast extract, salt and a small amount of real cooked dried bacon, with lactose from milk in the mix. The producer says the smoke comes from sustainable oak and that it sits well against a full-flavoured bacon, and it is clear that these are not for vegetarians: there is pork in the bag. The flavour is savoury and smoky first, with the bacon behind it, and the 2013 recipe holds a Great Taste star.

A bag for a packed lunch, a desk drawer or the walk home from the pub. They are good on the side of a bacon-free sandwich that needs some, and a handful crushed over a baked potato with a spoon of Stokes Brown Sauce is a cheap trick that works. With a beer, put them next to Mr Filbert's Salt Crust Peanuts and let people alternate.
