Brown Bag Crisps Sea Salt & Malt Vinegar

Hand-cooked salt and vinegar crisps in a 40g bag, seasoned with sea salt and dried malt vinegar. Brown Bag Crisps make them in Cullompton, Devon, slicing and frying potatoes in rapeseed oil before an 8% seasoning goes on.

The seasoning combines salt and sea salt with dried malt vinegar, a touch of dried balsamic vinegar, citric and malic acid for extra sharpness, and lactose from milk to carry it. The producer calls the result zingy and moreish and talks about the balance of sea salt and malt vinegar, and the acids on the ingredient list back that up: these are sharp crisps, not timid ones. Great Taste gave the flavour a star in 2017 and again in 2019.

The obvious partner is fish and chips, but they are just as good torn open beside a cheese sandwich or a scotch egg. On a snack board, put them next to Drivers 1906 Pickled Onions for a vinegar-lover's corner, and pour a Belvoir Freshly Squeezed Lemonade to go with them.

One 40g bag. Contains milk, so not vegan. The producer lists the crisps as vegetarian and gluten free.
