West Country Legends Spicy Chilli Cheese Straws 100g

A 100g box of cheese straws with a chilli kick from West Country Legends in Glastonbury, Somerset, baked with traditional methods and locally sourced ingredients.

The pastry is 28.2% West Country farmhouse cheddar and butter, seasoned with cayenne pepper, paprika, tomato and onion powders, 0.4% crushed chillies, mustard powder and garlic. The maker calls the heat gentle, and it is: the cheese comes first, the warmth builds behind it, and the straws snap rather than crumble. There is no colouring beyond the beta carotene in the butter.

They are a drinks snack more than a cracker. Put a box out with a cold beer or a glass of something sparkling before dinner, stand a few in a glass on the cheeseboard next to a mild cheese such as Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar, or crumble them over a bowl of soup.
