An Earl Grey built on Cornish-grown leaf rather than the usual Chinese or Ceylon base, blended and packed by Tregothnan at Tresillian, near Truro in Cornwall, the estate that has grown its own tea since 1999. The blend is estate tea, Assam from India and natural bergamot oil, and the estate notes it was created by descendants of the Earl Grey the tea is named for.
The bergamot is pure Citrus bergamia oil from Calabrian orchards, and it is the only flavouring. Under it sits a black tea with Assam malt for weight and the estate's own leaf for brightness, so the citrus comes through cleanly without the blend tasting of perfume. No other flavourings, no colouring.
Use freshly boiled water cooled a little, to about 90 degrees, and infuse for three to four minutes. The estate serves it hot with a slice of lemon, iced on a summer's day, or shaken with gin or vodka for an Earl Grey martini. It is a good afternoon tea: put it with Kent & Fraser Lemon Butter Shortbread, or with a slice of cake and a Chococo Glorious Ginger 72% Dark Chocolate Bar broken up on the side.
Twenty-five individually wrapped tea bags, each sealed for freshness. Contains caffeine. Dairy-free, gluten-free, and suitable for vegetarians and vegans, with no allergens declared.
