Brandy butter with three ingredients, made by Wilkin & Sons at Tiptree in Essex, where the firm has been making preserves on its own estate since 1885.
Sugar, salted butter and an 8% measure of brandy, beaten together and set in a jar. That is the whole recipe, and it is why it tastes of butter and brandy rather than of vegetable fat and flavouring. Served cold from the fridge it melts slowly over a hot mince pie or a slice of Christmas pudding, which is the only job it has.
Wilkin & Sons make it in a nut free factory and keep it simple, so it is one of the few brandy butters that coeliacs can have. Put a jar on the table with the Tiptree Christmas Pudding, or with a box of Lottie Shaw's Mince Pies. A spoonful also goes well on a warm waffle or pancake on Boxing Day morning.
A 210g glass jar. Allergens: milk. Made in a nut free factory. Suitable for vegetarians and, the producer says, for coeliacs. Keep refrigerated once opened.
