Snaffling Pig Hot to Trot Habanero Pork Crackling 40g

A 40g foil bag of pork crackling seasoned with habanero chilli. Snaffling Pig, based in Thame, Oxfordshire, started out in a pub in Henley-on-Thames in 2015 and have made pork crackling and scratchings their whole business since.

Pork rind (75%) is cooked in pork fat and sunflower oil until it puffs, then seasoned with salt, chilli powder, habanero chilli powder, red pepper, cumin, yeast extract and paprika extract. The producer describes it as hot stuff, but not mouth-burning: more than a little tickle of the taste buds rather than a dare. Habanero gives a fruity heat that builds through the bag, and the cumin and pepper keep it savoury under the chilli.

This is a pint snack first: open it with a cold lager or a bitter and pass it round. It also belongs on a board with Brown Bag Crisps Oak Smoked Chilli and a pot of Stokes Garlic Mayonnaise for dipping, and a bag crushed over a bowl of tomato soup is a good use of the last few pieces.
