Mr Filbert's Spring Wild Garlic Mixed Nuts 100g

Peanuts, cashews, almonds and hazelnuts, roasted and tumbled in wild garlic, basil and herbs. Mr Filbert's, who season their nuts in Charlton Mackrell, Somerset, build their recipes around fresh herbs and foraged ingredients, and wild garlic is the foraged ingredient here.

Nuts make up 93% of the bag. The seasoning is sugar, sea salt, garlic, basil, rapeseed oil, black pepper, wild garlic leaves and oregano. The maker describes a floral garlic flavour with a hint of basil: green and savoury rather than harsh, with a little sweetness from the sugar and pepper warmth behind it. The maker lists them as gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan.

They suit a glass of something white and dry, such as Lyme Bay Chardonnay, and are the right nuts for a spring lunch table with a soft goat's cheese like Rosary Natural Goat's Cheese Drum. Crush a few and scatter them over asparagus, a bowl of pea soup or a plate of new potatoes with butter. Or just leave the bag out on the table before Sunday lunch and watch it go, which is what usually happens.
