Little's Creamy Caramel Flavour Instant Coffee

A 50g jar of creamy caramel flavoured instant coffee from Little's in Willand, Devon, where the family makes every jar in its own factory from freeze-dried Arabica coffee infused with flavour and nothing else.

The jar contains freeze-dried coffee and creamy caramel flavouring, and that is all: no sugar, no sweeteners, no creamer, so it is 4 calories a cup. The maker describes it as smooth and sweet with delicate caramel notes and a balanced flavour, comfort in a cup. The caramel is in the aroma and the finish rather than as syrup, so the coffee still tastes like coffee.

One to two teaspoons in a mug, dissolve with a little hot water, then top up with hot water or warm milk. With milk it is closest to a caramel latte without the sugar; over ice with cold milk it is a summer coffee. It suits an elevenses break with a slice of flapjack, a couple of Farmhouse Biscuits Oat Flip Biscuits, or something from the confectionery shelf if you want to lean into the sweetness.
