White Lake Eve Goat's Cheese in Vine Leaf 140g

Eve is a soft goats' cheese washed in Somerset cider brandy and wrapped in a vine leaf, made by White Lake Cheese at Bagborough Farm in Pylle, Somerset, from thermised goat's milk with vegetarian rennet. The leaf, the maker says, helps keep the paste softer as the cheese ripens.

White Lake describe a creamy, unctuous centre that develops with age, and nuttier flavours than a plain fresh goats' cheese. The brandy wash gives the rind its character and a faint boozy sweetness; unwrap the leaf and you find a pale, yielding paste underneath. It won Silver at the World Cheese Awards in 2025. Milk is the only declared allergen.

Bring it to room temperature and serve it whole, leaf and all, with a knife for people to open it up. It holds its own on a board, and a rosemary cracker, one of the three in The Fine Cheese Co Flavoured Crackers Selection Box, is pitched by its baker at goats' milk cheese. A sharp-sweet spoonful of Highfield Preserves Apple & Cider Chutney picks up the cider brandy in the wash.
