Mrs Darlington's Orange & Ginger Marmalade

Mrs Darlington's Orange & Ginger Marmalade is a Seville orange marmalade with stem ginger, made near Nantwich in Cheshire by a family firm that has cooked its own preserves since 1980 and whose founder still oversees every recipe. The producer describes it as a blend of tangy orange and the spice of ginger.

Stem ginger makes up 13% of the jar, alongside sugar, Seville oranges, water, orange juice, pectin and lemon juice, prepared with 35g of fruit per 100g and with no added colour or preservatives. The Seville oranges give the bitter backbone, the lemon juice keeps it sharp, and the ginger is preserved stem ginger rather than ground spice, so you get soft pieces of it and a warmth that builds rather than a dry heat. The producer's words for it are tangy and zing.

The producer pitches it as a way to start the day, and on hot toast or a crumpet it does that. It also makes a good glaze for roast pork or duck, stirs into a steamed sponge, and pairs with a hard, nutty cheese: try a spoonful beside Quicke's Mature Clothbound Cheddar, with something from the crackers for cheese collection.

We send food and drink, so parcels never wait in depots over the weekend. Order by midday, Monday to Thursday, for next-day delivery: DPD with a one-hour window for most orders, APC Overnight's specialist liquid service for anything containing wine, spirits or other liquids. Orders after midday Thursday, or over the weekend, dispatch on Monday.

Cheese is cut fresh to order and sent chilled, dispatched every Monday and Wednesday. Everything in your order ships together in one insulated box, arriving the next day.

If your order arrives damaged, faulty, missing an item, or not as described, contact us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and clear photos of the packaging and the affected item. Please keep all packaging until we've reviewed the issue.
