A 200ml bottle of Smoked Garlic & Black Peppercorn Bread Dipper from Charlie & Ivy's, a family business on the chalky Yorkshire Wolds at Thixendale near Malton in North Yorkshire, where every product is made on the farm with the family's own cold-pressed rapeseed oil at its core.

The ingredient list is cold-pressed rapeseed oil, black pepper, garlic oil and oak smoke, so the flavour is exactly what it says: a gentle oak smokiness, the savoury depth of garlic and a warm kick of cracked black pepper, all carried by an oil the producer describes as gentle in flavour and good at carrying other flavours. The rapeseed is pressed once, cold, with no heat or chemicals. It is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. A little natural sediment in the bottle is normal.

The producer's instruction is simple: pour it into a bowl and dip generously with crusty bread. Beyond that they suggest drizzling it over salads, pasta or pizza, and cooking with it, from frying steak or mushrooms to roasting potatoes and parsnips.
