Four jars of mayonnaise in a black gift box from Charlie & Ivy's, made on the Palmer family's farm at Thixendale near Malton in the Yorkshire Wolds, where they press the rapeseed oil that every jar is built on.
The four are Mustard & Ale, made with Dijon style and wholegrain mustard and a certified gluten free beer from Wold Top brewery down the road; Lemon & Dill, bright and sharp for fish and potato salad; Chilli & Lime, with chilli flakes, lime oil and smoked paprika for burgers and tacos; and Smoked Garlic, where a quarter of the oil is smoked and garlic oil finishes it. Each is thick, yellow with free range egg, and tastes of the cold pressed rapeseed oil rather than of a factory. Two of them, the Lemon & Dill and the Chilli & Lime, hold Great Taste awards.
The maker calls it a stocking filler for a foodie, and it is the sort of thing a sandwich or burger obsessive will open on Boxing Day and work through by New Year. It pairs well with the same farm's Smoked Garlic and Black Peppercorn Bread Dipper.
