A red round box tied with gold ribbon, holding truffles and milk, white and dark chocolates from Charbonnel et Walker. The firm opened on Bond Street in 1875 and still makes its chocolates to Madame Charbonnel's recipes, now at Poundbury in Dorset.
The centres run from vanilla fudge and salted caramel to hazelnut praline, pistachio and raspberry, so there is something for everyone when the box goes round the table after Christmas lunch. Every piece is alcohol free.
The box does a lot of the work. At 24cm across, with the maker's name woven into the ribbon, it looks the part under a tree without any extra wrapping. Give it to a mother, a grandmother or a host, and add a pot of Tregothnan English Breakfast if you want to make more of it.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
