A box of English Breakfast tea bags from Brew Tea Co, who blend and pack at Trafford Park in Manchester, Greater Manchester, using rolled whole leaves rather than the fine dust that fills most tea bags. It is the blend the company started with, and the one they say tastes exactly how a real cup of tea should.

Two teas go into it: Assam from India for richness and body, and Ceylon from the Uva region of Sri Lanka for a lighter, fresher edge. The maker's tasting note is strong and malty. Because the leaves are left whole, the tea gives up its flavour more slowly and does not turn stewed and bitter in the way dust does; you get colour, body and a clean finish. Nothing else is added.

Brew one bag in about 300ml of freshly boiled water for three to four minutes if you take it black, four to five with milk. The maker's advice is to brew longer rather than use more tea if you want it stronger. It is a morning tea, and a mid-afternoon one with a Farmhouse Biscuits Shortbread Ring or toast and Mrs Darlington's Medium Cut Orange Marmalade. The maker also suggests it with good milk chocolate, which brings out the caramel notes.
