Tracklements Spiced Plum Chutney

Tracklements Spiced Plum Chutney is a dark fruit chutney that Tracklements make at Easton Grey near Malmesbury in Wiltshire with Stanley plums, chosen for their sharp fruitiness, mixed with fresh orange zest and subtle spices. The producer describes it as being as dark, rich and fragrant as plum cake.

Plums make up 32% of the jar, cooked with cider vinegar, Bramley apples, onions and both muscovado and raw cane sugar. Ginger, sultanas, garlic, orange zest, mustard seed, nutmeg, cinnamon and black pepper do the seasoning. The taste is sweet, tangy and spiced, with the orange coming through the fruit and the muscovado giving it depth without heaviness.

The producer calls it a knock-out with any cheese or cold meat. It suits a mature cheddar, a crumbly Lancashire or a blue, and it is a good match for cold roast pork, ham off the bone or leftover turkey in a sandwich. Spoon it beside a pork pie or a scotch egg, or stir a little into a gravy for roast duck. One of their customers recommends it with roasted vegetables as well.

The jar holds 265g. Contains mustard. Refrigerate once opened.
