Mrs Darlington's Shredless Orange Marmalade

Mrs Darlington's Shredless Orange Marmalade is made near Nantwich in Cheshire by a family firm that has cooked its own preserves since 1980. The maker sums it up as all the tangy flavour, just without the shred.

It is made with Seville oranges, prepared at 39g of fruit per 100g, with orange juice, lemon juice, sugar, pectin and orange oil, and no added colour or preservative. Without the peel the texture is smooth and jelly-like, but the bitter orange character is still there, so it tastes like a proper marmalade rather than an orange jam.

It is the marmalade for children, for anyone who dislikes peel, and for spreading inside a warm croissant where a chunky shred would fall out. It also melts cleanly, which makes it useful as a glaze for a ham or stirred into a sauce for duck. Those who prefer the peel should look at the Thick Cut Orange Marmalade.
