Mrs Darlington's Fruity Brown Sauce

Mrs Darlington's Fruity Brown Sauce is made near Nantwich in Cheshire by a family firm that has cooked its own preserves since 1980. The maker admits it took some time to get right, and is confident it will be the best brown sauce you have tasted, and that your next sausage sandwich will be transformed.

Half the bottle is tomatoes, with 14% apple and 12% dates, then malt vinegar, tamarind, treacle, onion powder, spices and salt, with natural caramel for colour and no artificial colours or preservatives. The fruit gives it a rounder, less vinegary character than the big brands, the tamarind supplies the sourness and the treacle the depth, and the spice is warming rather than hot.

It was made for a sausage sandwich and a bacon roll, and it is the sauce for a full English, a pork pie, a sausage roll or a plate of chips. It also makes a quick barbecue glaze mixed with a spoonful of honey. The Bloody Mary Ketchup is its red counterpart.

A 270g glass bottle. Contains gluten, from the barley in the malt vinegar. Every ingredient is plant based, so it suits vegans.

Order by midday, Monday to Thursday, for next-day delivery: DPD with a one-hour window for most orders, APC Overnight's specialist liquid service for anything containing wine, spirits or other liquids. Orders after midday Thursday, or over the weekend, dispatch on Monday.

Cheese is cut fresh to order and sent chilled, dispatched every Monday and Wednesday. Everything in your order ships together in one insulated box, arriving the next day.

If your order arrives damaged, faulty, missing an item, or not as described, contact us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and clear photos of the packaging and the affected item. Please keep all packaging until we've reviewed the issue.
