Charbonnel et Walker Whisky Truffles 130g

A dark chocolate truffle with Scotch whisky in the middle, made by Charbonnel et Walker in London, where the firm has been hand-making chocolates to the recipes of Madame Charbonnel since it opened on Bond Street in 1875. The house is best known for its dark chocolate, and this is one of the plainest ways to taste it.

The recipe is short. Dark chocolate makes up 65% of the truffle, worked into a ganache with single cream and 4.75% blended Scotch whisky, then rolled in fat-reduced cocoa powder. The maker describes it as a rich, dark chocolate ganache with a Scotch whisky centre, lightly dusted in cocoa. The whisky is a proper measure rather than a flavouring, so expect warmth on the finish and the slight bitterness of the cocoa dusting on the outside.

Serve them after dinner where a dram would otherwise go, or alongside one: a glass of The One Fine Blended Whisky next to the box is not overdoing it. They also suit a strong black coffee. As a gift they answer the question of what to buy the person who says they do not eat sweets.
