Charbonnel et Walker Eggnog Truffles 115g

White chocolate truffles with an eggnog centre, made by Charbonnel et Walker at Poundbury in Dorset. The firm has been making chocolates to the recipes of Madame Charbonnel since it opened on Bond Street in London in 1875, and this is one of its Christmas truffles.

The centre is a soft white chocolate ganache made with salted butter, 4% brandy and a little nutmeg, which is the eggnog part. Each truffle is finished with a light dusting of icing sugar and packed in a white and gold round box. The maker calls it a nostalgic Christmas treat, and that is how it eats: sweet and buttery first, then the brandy and the spice coming through as the white chocolate melts.

Put the box out with coffee after Christmas lunch, or give it to the person in the family who always picks white chocolate over dark. A small glass of brandy or a sweet sherry alongside suits it well, and the round box fits neatly in a stocking.
