Snaffling Pig Marvellous Maple Pork Crackling 40g

A 40g foil bag of pork crackling with a sweet maple seasoning. Snaffling Pig, based in Thame, Oxfordshire, began in a Henley-on-Thames pub in 2015 and have made pork crackling and scratchings ever since.

Pork rind (75%) is cooked in pork fat and sunflower oil until it puffs up, then seasoned with salt, sugar, molasses extract powder, onion and garlic powder, natural flavouring and a wheat rusk. The producer says the recipe was inspired by a pancake-and-syrup breakfast, calls it their first sweeter variety, and describes a sweet and salty balance. It holds two Great Taste stars from 2017 and another from 2021.

The producer suggests a pint, but admits it gets demolished alongside all sorts of drinks at all times of day. Try it with a glass of The One Fine Blended Whisky or a Belvoir Ginger Beer, or put a bowl out at a barbecue next to Brown Bag Crisps Smoked Bacon for anyone who likes their snacks sweet and salty.
